A Wideband Oxygen Sensor is a critical part of tuning your car safely and properly. We suggest the AEM Wideband O2 on all stage 1/2 cars and REQUIRE it on anything more for any E Tuning support.
What is a Wideband Oxygen Sensor and why do I need it?
An oxygen sensor measures the amount of oxygen in your exhaust, which allows you to determine how much fuel is being burned. This is especially important because the Air -Fuel Ratio (AFR) that your engine is running has a massive impact on how it will run and how safe it is. Generally, we need richer AFRs on turbocharged cars when we are in boost. The factory Oxygen Sensors on some cars are not satisfactory for monitoring AFR because they are not designed to read at wide open throttle. Some cars that do NOT have a factory wideband are:
2002-2014 Subaru WRX
2004-2020 Subaru STI
All Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
and many others.
If you are planning on doing any mods to your car, consider these questions: How do I know if my AFR is safe? How do I know if my car was tuned properly? The Wideband O2 gauge and sensor will help you answer these questions. If you want your car to run safely after modifications, you will need a good tune. If you are getting an E Tune from BCP and your car does not have a wideband O2 from the factory, you will need to add one. For the smoothest tuning experience on Subarus, we suggest the AEM Wideband O2 and the Fuel Pressure Monitor kit combined together. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask us!
