It’s no secret that the LS3 is a top-pick in the V8 world. It’s an engine that makes ample power from the factory and responds to minor mods like no other. It has the ability to take LOTS of boost without touching any internals and offers many Corvette and Camaro owners the opportunity to make BIG POWER without dishing out BIG cash .
Anthony brought his spotless low-mileage 5th gen Camaro to us for a cam swap. The car had already been modified with KOOKS longtube headers, Corsa catback, Cold air intake, and a tune. We baselined the car at a respectable 428whp and 423wtq. Next, we installed an LG G6X3 Cam kit from LG Motorsports. This cam has been a proven staple for owners who want to run the largest cam possible without fly-cutting pistons.
Post-install, the car was loaded back on the dyno and Alex finished off the package with a solid tune via HP Tuners. The results were quite impressive: a whopping 52 wheel horsepower gain and 17 wheel torque improvement! Keep in mind, this was a cam swap ONLY. These cars typically baseline around 380whp in completely stock trim so this cam/headers package offers around a 100 whp improvement over stock, without boost, while retaining reliability!
For what it’s worth, this cam does not sacrifice ANY low end torque after 3,000 rpm and offer such a substantial high-rpm increase that you’d NEVER miss your stock cam ever again. It also offers an incredible idle lope as well, and we encourage you to listen in the sound clip below.
